BRASS LESSONS IN THE CINCINNATI, OHIO AREA

For lessons in the greater Cincinnati and tri-state area Bruce has 2 locations. One is in Harrison, 20 minutes west of Cincinnati, just off I 74. The other is in the Sharonville area, just off I 75.

Regardless of one’s abilities or the problems one is currently facing, Bruce’s time-tested brass teaching techniques will bring solid improvement! Bruce’s many years of study with some of the world’s best, coupled with years of performance experience in some of the most demanding situations, all attribute to the success he has had in his 26 years of brass teaching. From tuba to trumpet, and in every conceivable style of music, Bruce’s students have benefited greatly from his teaching.

Each lesson is custom tailored to address the needs of the player, with emphasis upon building the physique needed to play correctly and easily. Most players suffer from a lack of basic physical development, the result of not knowing what and how to practice. One great player once stated: “Without technical proficiency, there can be no music!” This is very true, so after a student’s basics are set, more time can then be devoted to solos, musical studies and performance pieces, without the usual frustrations and difficulties.

The lessons will address the following areas:

• Upper and lower register development
• Flexibility and intervals
• Technical studies, tonguing, slurring
• Breath control
• Accuracy development
• Strength and stamina development
• Breathing exercises
• Music reading skills
• Classical literature
• Jazz and classical phrasing, musicality
• Music theory
• Jazz improvisation (optional)
• Preparation for auditions and performances

Younger players can receive more emphasis on music reading skills and musical pieces as needed.
